Chemists/Analysts perform analysis of geological materials such as drill cores and ore samples as well as liquid and solid process samples to ensure we operate within prescribed tolerances so that our products meet or exceed the excellent standards our customers throughout the world have come to expect from Vale. Chemists and chemical technologists are employed at our process technology and quality control laboratories in Sudbury and Port Colborne, Ontario and Thompson, Manitoba and at our plant facilities in Indonesia, New Caledonia, Wales and England.
Our research facilities in Sheridan Park in Mississauga, Ontario, provide opportunity for both chemists and chemical technologists to become involved in the development of innovative mineral extraction methods and product development while working in a modern laboratory environment equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation. A normal career path for our Analytical Chemists is to advance to more senior levels, including supervision, within the Analytical Services section. There can also be opportunities to transfer to other research sections, e.g. Hydrometallurgy and Pyrometallurgy, as well as into corporate functions like marketing. Entry into these positions can be at the technologist level as well as graduate chemists up to and including PhDs.
